XAT 2027 Analysis

Overview of the Paper (Expected Pattern)
The XAT 2027 exam is expected to follow the same well-established pattern as previous years. The paper will consist of two parts: Part I (Main Question Paper) and Part II (General Knowledge).
Part I will have three sections with a total of 75 questions:
  • Section A: Verbal and Logical Reasoning – 26 questions
  • Section B: Decision Making – 21 questions
  • Section C: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation – 28 questions
Part II will contain 20 questions on General Knowledge.
Candidates will be required to attempt questions from all sections. Scores from Part I will be used for shortlisting for GD/PI, while Part II (GK) scores will be considered only by selective institutes during the final selection process. There will be no negative marking in the GK section.

Section-wise Expected Analysis
1. Verbal & Logical Reasoning (26 Questions)
This section is expected to test reading comprehension, critical thinking, and verbal ability thoroughly.
Expected Pattern:
  • 5 Reading Comprehension passages + 1 Poem-based passage (2 questions)
  • 15 questions from RC and 11 from Verbal Ability
  • Topics in RC: Behavioral Sciences, Organizational Behaviour, HR, Philosophy, Science & Technology, and Leadership
  • Other topics: Critical Reasoning, Sentence Rearrangement, Sentence Correction, Sentence Completion, and possibly one Picture-based question
Expected Overall Feel: Moderate but slightly lengthy due to dense and inference-based passages.
Good Attempt: 18 – 20 questions (with high accuracy)
2. Decision Making (21 Questions)
This signature XAT section is expected to evaluate ethical reasoning and managerial decision-making skills.
Expected Pattern:
  • 7 Caselets with 3 questions each
  • Cases likely based on business scenarios such as B-school admissions, recruitment, HR issues, Gen Z vs Senior conflicts, stakeholder management, and ethical dilemmas
Expected Difficulty: Easy to Slightly Moderate
Good Attempt: 16 – 18 questions
Tip: Focus on logical, ethical, and balanced choices while avoiding extreme options.
3. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (28 Questions)
This section is traditionally considered the toughest in XAT.
Expected Break-up:
  • Quantitative Ability: 19 questions
  • Data Interpretation: 9 questions (3 sets of 3 questions each)

Expected Key Topics in Quant:
  • Geometry & Mensuration (high weightage)
  • Numbers, Time-Speed-Distance, Profit & Loss, Probability, Functions, Linear Equations
DI Sets: Expected to be calculation-intensive (Tables, Employee data, Number-based sets, etc.)
Expected Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
Good Attempt: 14 – 16 questions
Tip: Strong question selection and time management will be critical.
4. General Knowledge (20 Questions)
Part II of the exam.
Expected Pattern:
  • 8–9 questions from Static GK
  • 11–12 questions from Current Affairs
  • Topics: Sports, Awards, Science & Technology, Start-ups, Infrastructure, International Relations, Economy, etc.
Since there will be no negative marking, candidates can use elimination and intelligent guessing.
Expected Difficulty: Moderate
Good Attempt: 12 – 14 questions
