Top B-Schools Accepting XAT Scores

XAT colleges refer to B-Schools accepting Xavier Aptitude Test for admission to MBA/PGDM. Over 250+ colleges in India use the XAT score. This includes 12 XAMI institutes and 134 associate institutes. The exact list of XAT colleges can vary by admission cycle. XAT is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI). XLRI has conducted the exam for over 75 years. This gives test-takers a strong route to reputed XAT colleges, including XLRI.
The XAT application is fully online. Candidates can fill out the form on the official website at https://xatonline.in/. XAT is a computer-based test held in a single slot. The registration fee is Rs. 2,300 for all candidates. An extra Rs. 200 is charged for each XLRI programme selected. XAT is conducted once a year. XAT 2027 will be held on January 3, 2027, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
XAT has four sections carrying 95 questions to be attempted in 180 minutes. Part 1 has VALR (26), Decision Making (21), and QA & DI (28) to be solved within 170 minutes. Part 2 has GK (20) with 10 minutes duration. Each question carries 1 mark. In Part 1, 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. After 8 unattempted questions, 0.10 marks are deducted for each extra skip. GK has no negative marking and is not counted in the percentile.

Admission to XAT Colleges
Each XAT college has its own admission process. After the XAT result, institutes shortlist candidates and then conduct GD, WAT, and PI based on their selection criteria. Always check the official website of the college before applying.
A typical process is:
  1. Appear for XAT and get the scorecard from xatonline.in.
  2. Apply separately to the XAT college or program you seek admission to.
  3. The institute shortlists candidates on XAT percentile, sectionals, academics, and, in some cases, work experience.
  4. Shortlisted candidates go through GD, WAT, and PI.
  5. The final offer is based on XAT score plus performance in these rounds.
The analytical essay is no longer part of the XAT computer-based test. If a college wants a writing task, it is taken during GD/PI. Some XAT colleges accept only the XAT. Others also accept CAT, CMAT, MAT, or GMAT for the same program.
XAT College FAQs
Q. What are the best colleges for an MBA in Delhi-NCR through XAT?
A. XAT-participating B-schools in Delhi-NCR include IMT Ghaziabad, IMI New Delhi, FORE, BIMTECH Greater Noida, XLRI Delhi-NCR, LBSIM, Jaipuria Noida, JIMS Rohini, and FIIB. XLRI/XAMI do not officially rank these as “the best.” Compare programs, fees, placements and the current admission criteria before applying.
Q. I have got 40 marks in Part 1 of XAT. Which B-schools can I expect?
A. A raw Part 1 score near 40 can be in the high-percentile band on a true XAT paper, but institutes do not admit on raw marks alone. Check the percentile, sectional scores, academics, and the institute’s own cut-off. XLRI considers overall plus sectional percentiles. XIMB, IMT, IMI, MICA and GIM also run their own GD/PI process.

Q. What are the best colleges that accept XAT scores?
A. XAT is accepted by 250+ B-schools, including 134 associate institutes. It is not used by the IIMs. The strongest names are XLRI Jamshedpur, XIMB, IMT Ghaziabad, MICA, IMI Delhi, GIM, TAPMI, Great Lakes, FORE and IRMA. Flagship XLRI BM often needs about 94 percentile and sectionals. At 85–90 percentile, target IMT, IMI, MICA, GIM, TAPMI and FORE. GD–PI are the final stages of admission.
Q. Which 10 colleges are best for an MBA through XAT?
A. Prominent B-schools accepting XAT include XLRI Jamshedpur, XIM University Bhubaneswar, IMT Ghaziabad, MICA Ahmedabad, IMI New Delhi, GIM Goa, TAPMI Manipal, Great Lakes Chennai, FORE New Delhi and BIMTECH Greater Noida. XLRI is ranked 10 in NIRF 2025 Management. XAMI does not rank the other members.
Q. What are the best MBA colleges with a moderate fee that accept XAT scores?
A. For a relatively lower fee than XLRI, look at XISS Ranchi, XIME Bengaluru, LIBA Chennai, IMI Bhubaneswar/Kolkata, IMT Nagpur, JIMS and selected Jaipuria campuses. Check median CTC and hostel cost, not the tuition fee alone. Always confirm the current fee on the institute website.
Q. I scored around 82 percentile in XAT. Are FORE and BIMTECH good options?
A. Yes, both typically shortlist in that band, subject to sectionals and profile. FORE is the stronger Delhi option on brand and placements; BIMTECH is often the more moderate-fee NCR backup. Also apply to Jaipuria Noida, JIMS and IMI Kolkata. The final offer still depends on GD–PI.
