IIFT Eligibility 2023: Qualification and criteria for IIFT exam

IIFT 2023
IIFT is a national-level exam conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBA (IB) at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. Conducted every year in the month of December, the exam is taken by around 40,000 candidates. The difficulty level of IIFT is comparable to the popular MBA entrances like CAT, XAT, etc. The official notification for IIFT 2023 will be released in September 2023, and the upcoming test session will be scheduled for December 2023.

IIFT Eligibility Criteria 2023
Eligibility requirements are different for Indian candidates and foreign nationals. While the Indian candidates are required to apply to the institute via IIFT exam scores and later, the shortlisted ones appear for further selection rounds like GD and PI; the foreign nationals have to apply through GMAT score and then appear for an interview. However, some of the conditions are the same for both in case of applying for the institute. Listed below are the basic IIFT MBA eligibility requisites for both categories of candidates:
Common Eligibility Criteria for Indian/Foreign/NRI candidates:
  • The candidate must have a recognized Bachelor’s degree of atleast 3 years duration in any discipline.
  • Candidates in their final year of Graduation can also apply. However, such candidates have to submit the proof of requisite qualification by October, 2023.
  • Candidates belonging to the General category must have secured at least 50% marks in graduation, and candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories must have secured a minimum of 45% in graduation.
  • There is no age limit for the applicants.
  • There is no mandatory minimum work experience specified by IIFT in its eligibility criteria. Any fresher with requisite qualifications can apply for the IIFT entrance exam.

Additional Criteria for Foreign/NRI Candidates::
Along with the criteria mentioned above, foreign nationals need to fulfil the following conditions for IIFT eligibility:
  • A candidate who is a resident outside India for a period of not less than 18 months as on 31st December 2023 and remains outside India during the IIFT examination window is qualified.
  • The candidate should have a GMAT scorecard, that has to be submitted to the Institute by 15 March, 2024. GMAT taken before 1 January, 2022 is not considered valid.
  • The candidates who are in India at the time of the IIFT entrance test must take the IIFT 2023 exam. If the candidate has appeared for any other MBA entrance test of India like CAT/ XAT/ IIFT for the year 2023-2024, then they are not eligible to apply as NRI/ Foreign Nationals candidate.
  • Children of NRIs and NRI-Sponsored people are ineligible forthis category.
  • The Indian nationals who are studying, working, or living abroad must have a certificate from the Indian Embassy/ Consulate/High Commission of the country where they are currently based, stating that they have been resident in that country constantly for 18 months or more, as of 31st December 2023.
  • Foreign nationals must have a valid travel document/ passport from a country other than India.
  • In case of Foreign Nationals applying under the Self-financing Scheme, the applications should follow through the Ministry of Education/External Affairs, GOI and get to the Institute by 15 March, 2024. They also need to send a copy of a valid GMAT score with their application.
NOTE: The candidates who join the MBA programme at IIFT on a provisional basis, but could not qualify their Bachelor's degree examination are likely to face cancellation of their admission. Such candidates must immediately inform the Institute of the declaration of their results. If these candidates fail to inform the Institute of such a situation are declared ineligible for admission. IIFT Reservation Policy 2023
Being a public institute, IIFT follows the reservation rules stated by the GoI. The given table gives the detailed breakup of the seats reserved for various categories of candidates:

Lastly, IIFT also extends need-based scholarships, in which it offers an interest subsidy on the educational loan taken from a bank. This is applicable for a total of 27 months from the time the loan is secured.
