On 31 March 2021, the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) was conducted by NTA in two shifts. As per the exam analysis by our industry experts, the exam's difficulty level was easy to moderate. The difficulty level of the exam was similar in both of the shifts.
The examination was conducted in the online computer-based mode, for which 3 hours were allotted. The examination was divided into 4 sections like Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation and Quantitative Technique, Language Comprehension and General Awareness. However, Innovation and Entrepreneurship is an optional section introduced in the exam for students opting for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

CMAT 2021: Important Highlights
- In CMAT 2021 exam, a new section was introduced named –Innovation and Entrepreneurship. It is an optional exam for students who are further taking up the subject.
- As compared to the previous year's exam, Quantitative Techniques& DI and Language Comprehension had a higher level of difficulty than other sections.
- A score of 335-340 can be a good attempt.
CMAT 2021: Exam Analysis (Shift 1 & Shift 2)
The CMAT examination paper contained 100 questions divided into 4 sections and an optional section for students opting for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The additional section also contained 25 questions. For every correct answer, 4 marks are rewarded, and for every wrong answer, -1 are deducted. Below mentioned is the CMAT 2021 Exam Analysis of both shifts.
Shift 1
Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation
The section was relatively a little tricky than the previous year's exam. Arithmetic, Algebra and Number System dominated CMAT 2021 Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation section. The section also had a few questions from Permutation and Combination, Probability, Data Interpretation and Geometry. However, the section reported being of moderate to a difficult level of difficulty.
Logical Reasoning
In the Shift 1 exam, the section was reported to be the easiest of all. The section was manageable, and candidates could have been able to attempt 20-21 questions. Major topics that dominated the section were Series, Rank and Order and Blood relations. A good attempt in this section will be 20-21 questions to ace the section with a great score.
Language Comprehension
The number of Reading Comprehensions was higher as compared to the previous year's exam. There were 4 Reading Comprehensions containing about 14 questions. Other than R.C.s, the section also covered different topics like Vocabulary, Error Spotting, Active-Passive Voice, Fill in the Blanks, and Word Meanings. To get a good score, the candidate must have attempted 20+ questions.
General Awareness
It was a difficult section as compared to others. The section was dominated by Static G.K's questions like awards, history, sports, science, books, and civics. Questions from current affairs were also covered. However, candidates who would have attempted 19+ questions with 100% accuracy will ace the section.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
The section was recently introduced and was optional for the students to attempt. Candidates who have opted for Innovation and Entrepreneurship were required to attempt the section. The section was of moderate level of difficulty.
A good attempt for this section could be of 18-19 questions with 100% accuracy.
Shift 2
Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation
The maximum number of questions in the section were Algebra-based. The section was found to be trickier and time-consuming as compared to the Shift 1 exam. Other than Algebra's questions, the section also covered different topics like Arithmetic, Permutation and combination, Mensuration, Geometry, Probability and Functions. However, an attempt of 20-21 questions with 100% accuracy can be a great attempt.
Logical Reasoning
The section was recorded to be the easiest. The section was manageable and doable. The section was dominated by Series completion, Syllogisms, Coding-Decoding and Verbal Reasoning. However, other topics covered in this section were based on Rank and Order, Visual Reasoning, Seating arrangements and Directions.
Language Comprehension
In the Shift 2 Language Comprehension section, the topics covered were English Grammar, Synonyms and Antonyms. A total of 14 questions were based on reading comprehension. However, the level of difficulty for this section was easy to moderate.
General Awareness
Static G.K dominated the section with 13 questions. Major topics covered in this section were awards, recognitions, New Education Policy, trade and business and Education System. However, a few questions were covered from Current Affairs.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
The section was introduced for students who have opted for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in their management programme. The section was optional to attempt. However, candidates with Innovation and Entrepreneurship as their subjects must attempt this section. The section was relatively more manageable and not much tricky.
