XAT 2025
XAT is a premier MBA entrance exam conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur. It is held for aspirants seeking admission in management programmes of XLRI colleges and other associated institutes. Due to the high level of competition and difficulty level, XAT becomes a tough nut to crack, which makes it all the more necessary for test-takers to develop an understanding of the XAT syllabus.
Although the exam-conducting authorities don't specify any standard guidelines for the XAT syllabus, we have jotted the important topics here as per the pattern followed in the previous year XAT papers.

XAT Syllabus 2025: Overview
XAT is conducted in Online mode at 100+ test centers across India. The exam has two parts where Part I dwells on Verbal & Logical Reasoning, Decision-Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and Part II includes General Knowledge questions. There are a total of 95 objective-type questions in XAT that need to be tackled in 180 minutes. Listed below are the important topics for the XAT exam syllabus, as per the different sections:

Latest Changes in XAT 2025 Exam-
XAT administration has introduced significant changes in the XAT exam pattern.
  • Reduction in the overall number of questions: Earlier XAT used to have 101 questions which have been reduced to 95 questions that will be in the MCQ format.
  • Reduction in GK questions: Gk section will now have 20 questions instead of 25. This section will include 12 questions on current affairs and 8 questions from static GK ensuring a balanced assessment of candidates' current awareness and foundational knowledge.
  • Changes in Exam time: The total XAT 2025 exam time is reduced to 180 minutes instead of earlier 210 minutes.
  • XAT exam in 2 parts: The XAT 2025 exam has been divided into two parts. Part 1 is allocated 170 minutes and Part 2 is solely on the GK section which will be conducted in 10 minutes.
  • Removal of Analytical Essay Writing (AEW) Test: Analytical Essay Writing (AEW) has been removed from XAT 2025. This component section has been integrated with the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI) stages of the XLRI selection process.
  • GK Score: The score from the General Knowledge section will be exclusively utilized by XLRI Jamshedpur for its final selection process.
  • XAT Syllabus 2025: Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
    This section has 28 questions and is regarded as the trickiest of all. It is based on the fundamental topics of mathematics and tests the candidate's ability to handle complexity in a given time restraint. Quant and DI questions in XAT require rigorous calculations and can be aced with a good amount of practice, strong conceptual clarity, and a good knowledge of shortcuts and formulae. Both parts constitute more or less equal weightage in the section. The majority of the questions of XAT are asked from the following areas:

    XAT Syllabus 2025: Decision Making
    A distinct section of XAT, this is unlike any section of other management tests. In the decision-making section, candidates have to read the given passages or a set of information, think over it rationally, and then reach a possible solution or suggestion for it. There are 6-8 decision-making sets in the exam, followed by 2-3 questions each. There are a total of 21 questions in this section. Its questions are moderately difficult in nature and delve into the following types of topics:

    XAT Syllabus 2025: Verbal & Logical Ability
    Language skills and logical thinking are a must in every manager and leader. Hence, this section in XAT tends to assess the related capabilities of the candidates through 26 logical reasoning and verbal ability questions. Reading Comprehensions form nearly 50% of this section and its passages revolve around political, economic, or abstract themes. Other topics are mainly put to test the candidate's grasp of grammar.     XAT Syllabus 2025: General Knowledge
    General Knowledge section is based on a vast range of fields ranging from static GK facts to current national and international events. There are 20 questions of GK in XAT, with the weightage of static and current GK varying every year. It is crucial to prepare this section from the following areas:

    XAT Syllabus 2025: Essay
    The Analytical Essay Writing (AEW) component will be administered during the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI) stages of the selection process rather than as part of the XAT 2025. Topics given in this section are either abstract or related to current events. The essay is evaluated less for your knowledge and more for your ability to organize your opinions and thoughts in a logical manner.
