NMAT Verbal Ability: Tips and Tricks
Based on the above-mentioned syllabus and previous year NMAT exam pattern, the following are the key takeaways for NMAT aspirants:
  • As the exam pattern is has changed this year, out of 36 questions, an attempt of 29-30 questions with 95% accuracy will ensure that you clear the sectional cut-off comfortably.
  • As there is no negative marking, you would be tempted to maximize your attempts. But, in this section speed is important as 36 questions have to be solved in 28 minutes. Thus, you should pick and choose the questions and should not focus on attempting all the questions.
  • Generally, the 2 Reading Comprehension passages are of easy to moderate level of difficulty and most of the questions are direct. As time management is of paramount importance in this section, we suggest that RC passages should be attempted at the end, after attempting all other questions. In case the RC is very lengthy or difficult, it is advisable not to be attempted.
  • As we can see from the table above, a strong vocabulary is very important for a good score in the verbal section of NMAT. A lot of questions were vocabulary-based, namely, synonyms, antonyms, analogies and sentence completion.
  • Apart from this, verbal reasoning questions are also asked in the reasoning section of the exam. The questions are from topics like statement-arguments, statement-assumptions, statement-conclusion, statement-course of action and critical reasoning. You should prepare these areas thoroughly.
  • You should solve the questions in 2 rounds, in the first round, attempt the questions which are least time consuming and after these, questions like Para jumbles and RC should be attempted in the second round.
