CAT Cut Off 2024 for Top MBA Colleges and IIMs

Common Admission Test (CAT) Cut Off 2024 is crucial in shortlisting candidates for admission into various postgraduate MBA courses offered by different B-schools. CAT is a popular MBA entrance exam in India that serves as a gateway to the coveted IIMs and other top B-Schools. With over 2 lakh candidates competing for about 5000 seats in the IIMs, CAT is one of the most competitive entrance exams. It is a computer-based test that assesses a candidate's acumen in Verbal Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation.
In recent years, there have been changes in the exam's type and difficulty level, prompting B-schools to adjust their CAT Cut-Off 2024 accordingly. Right after completing the exam, students must prepare for the subsequent rounds of the selection process, typically including WAT/GD and PI rounds. However, specific admission procedures may vary across colleges.
CAT Cut Off 2024
CAT Cut-Off 2024 scores serve as a primary screening tool for shortlisting candidates for B-school admissions. CAT results was announced on 19 December 2024, and students received calls from various B-schools based on their CAT cut-off and profile. While some colleges emphasize the candidate's CAT score, others consider both the profile and CAT score. IIMs use a holistic approach, considering academic records, work experience, and other factors to prepare the final merit list. It has two key aspects:
  1. Sectional Cutoff: Candidates must meet the minimum percentile in each section – Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR), Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) & Quantitative Ability (QA).
  2. Overall Cutoff: Besides sectional cutoffs, candidates must achieve an overall minimum percentile.

Major Factors Behind CAT Cut-Off 2024
The following are key factors affecting CAT Cut Off for admissions to various B-schools:
  • Difficulty level of the exam
The CAT exam pattern and difficulty level often change, creating new challenges for aspirants. Higher difficulty usually results in lower cut-offs, as challenging exams yield lower scores.
  • Number of candidates appearing for CAT
Increased participation in the CAT exam raises the competition, influencing the cut-off scores.
  • Number of seats available
The number of seats in an institute affects the cut-off. Limited seats intensify competition, resulting in higher cut-offs.
  • Institute profile
An institute’s academic reputation, faculty, infrastructure, and industry links significantly impact its cut-off, with renowned institutes generally setting higher cut-offs.
  • Previous year's CAT cut-off
The previous year's cut-offs provide insights for setting the current cut-off, helping gauge expectations from top institutes.
Historically, cut-offs for older IIMs are higher than those for newer ones. However, some IIMs have recently shifted emphasis toward candidate profiles alongside CAT scores. The table below shows the expected CAT cut-off 2024 for top colleges, with similar figures anticipated for this session.
