NMAT 2027: Exam Date, Eligibility, Pattern, Syllabus & Cut-off

The NMAT by GMAC exam is a computer-adaptive management entrance test conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council. It is a computer-based test with 108 questions across three sections. NMAT sections consist of Language Skills (36 questions in 28 minutes), Logical Reasoning (36 questions in 40 minutes), and Quantitative Skills (36 questions in 52 minutes). The total duration is 120 minutes. There is no negative marking, and candidates receive an unofficial score on screen immediately after the test, and the official score within 48 hours of taking the test.
NMAT is popular for its flexible, candidate-friendly format. Its scores are accepted by over 60 leading B-schools for MBA and related management programmes. Candidates can attempt the exam up to three times in one testing cycle (one main attempt plus two retakes) with a minimum gap of 15 days between attempts. The registration fee is ?3,000 plus applicable taxes per attempt.
Candidates can register and schedule their test on the official NMAT Registration Portal at mba.com/exams/nmat. Registration for candidates in the 2027 cycle is expected to open in August 2027. Candidates have to apply individually to the colleges of their choice, including the NMIMS MBA Admissions Portal for the 2027 batch. However, it was formerly known as the NMIMS Management Aptitude Test.
To be eligible, candidates need a recognised bachelor’s degree, generally with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. There is no age limit for NMAT. Final-year students can also appear, subject to the admission rules of the respective colleges. Always check the latest updates on the official website mba.com/exams/nmat.

NMAT 2027 Exam Pattern
NMAT 2027 is a computer-based adaptive test with 108 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 120 minutes. The exam has three separately timed sections, and candidates can choose the order in which they attempt them.

Each section is separately timed. Unused time from one section does not carry forward to the next.
NMAT 2027 Marking Scheme
There is no negative marking in NMAT. Candidates are not penalised for wrong or unattempted questions. Each section is scored on a scale of 12 to 120, and the total score ranges from 36 to 360. All three sections carry equal weightage.
Adaptive Nature of NMAT 2027 Exam
NMAT is a computer-adaptive test. The difficulty of questions changes based on your responses. Correct answers generally lead to more difficult questions, while incorrect answers lead to easier ones. This helps the exam to measure your ability more precisely within the fixed time for each section.
Section Order and Time Management in NMAT 2027
Candidates can select the order of the three sections before the exam begins. Once selected, the order cannot be changed. Since each section has a fixed time limit and time does not transfer between sections, it is important to choose a sequence that matches your strengths. Many candidates prefer to start with their strongest section to build momentum and manage the overall time better.

NMAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria
GMAC does not set a fixed minimum percentage or age limit to appear for the NMAT exam. However, 62 individual B-schools that accept NMAT scores have their own eligibility criteria for admission. Candidates must meet the requirements of the institutes they plan to apply to. However, work experience is not required to take the exam, though some business schools may ask for your work experience, if you have one.
What is the Educational Qualification Required for NMAT 2027
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university. The degree should be of at least three years’ duration (10+2+3 or 10+2+4 pattern). Most colleges also accept professional qualifications such as CA, CS, or ICWA, subject to their specific rules.
What is the Minimum Percentage Requirement for NMAT 2027
There is no minimum percentage prescribed by GMAC for taking the NMAT exam. The percentage requirement is decided by the admitting college. For NMIMS MBA programmes, candidates generally need a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in graduation. Other participating colleges may have different criteria, so candidates should check each institute's official admission guidelines.
What is the Age Limit for NMAT 2027
There is no upper or lower age limit to appear for NMAT. Both fresh graduates and working professionals can take the exam, provided they fulfil the academic eligibility requirements of the colleges they are targeting.
Eligibility for Final Year Students for NMAT 2027
Final-year undergraduate students are eligible to appear for NMAT. They must complete their graduation and submit the required documents by the deadline specified by the respective B-school. Most colleges require candidates to produce proof of graduation before the final admission process is completed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid While Applying for NMAT 2027
These are some common mistakes that should be avoided while filling out the NMAT 2027 application form.
  1. Mismatch between name/DOB and Photo ID is one of the most common reasons for entry issues on exam day.
  2. Waiting until the last day to schedule preferred cities and slots means they fill fast on a first-come, first-served basis.
  3. Creating multiple NMAT accounts and duplicate registrations can lead to rejection and fee forfeiture.
  4. Assuming you can edit everything later, like personal details and address, which cannot be changed after submission.
  5. Ignoring the retake / first-score rule of your target school, while some institutes (confirm on their site) may consider only the first valid NMAT score.
  6. Avoid uploading a wrong or old photograph. Candidates, use a clear, recent, light-background photo that matches your ID.
  7. Treating NMAT registration as college admission: you still need to apply separately to every B-school.
  8. Selecting school preferences in a hurry: the first 5 preferences are free, but adding more than 5 later costs INR 400 + applicable taxes extra per school.
  9. Not downloading the admit card on time: download it from the dashboard 7 days before the exam and check the centre details.
  10. Using an inactive email: all verification and score alerts go to the registered email.
Hitbullseye tip: Finish registration in one sitting with your ID, photo and school list ready. Schedule immediately after payment, then shift focus to timed Language, Quant and LR practice with Hitbullseye NMAT mocks.

  • Language Skills: Reading Comprehension, Error Identification, Sentence Completion
  • Quantitative Skills: Arithmetic (Percentages, Ratio, Time-Speed-Distance), Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency
  • Logical Reasoning: Critical Reasoning and Analytical Puzzles
Note: Since NMAT is adaptive and questions cannot be skipped within a section, regular timed practice is important for all three sections.
NMAT 2027 Selection Process
NMAT scores are used by participating B-schools for shortlisting candidates. Each college follows its own admission process after receiving the scores. Registering for NMAT does not mean you have applied to any college. Candidates must apply separately to the institutes they are interested in.
How NMAT Scores Are Used for Admissions
After the result is declared, candidates send their NMAT scores to the colleges they have selected. Most institutes use the overall score or sectional scores for shortlisting. Some colleges have minimum sectional cut-offs along with an overall score requirement. Shortlisted candidates are then called for the next stage of the selection process.
Role of Personal Interview and Written Ability Test for NMAT 2027
Most colleges that accept NMAT scores conduct a Personal Interview (PI). Some institutes also include a Written Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD). Performance in these rounds, along with the NMAT score, academic record, and work experience (if any), is considered for final selection. The weightage given to each component varies from college to college.
NMIMS and Other Accepting Colleges Selection Criteria for NMAT 2027
For NMIMS, shortlisting is primarily based on the NMAT score. Shortlisted candidates are called for a Competency Test and Personal Interview. Other participating colleges also set their own cut-offs and selection criteria. Some may give higher weightage to work experience, while others focus more on academic consistency and interview performance. Candidates should check the official admission process of each college for exact details.
NMAT 2027 Preparation Strategy
Hitbullseye’s NMAT 2027 preparation plan below is built around that design. Treat process details as tentative if GMAC updates the next cycle.
How to Start NMAT 2027 Preparation
Candidates start their preparation for the management entrance test by understanding its exam pattern and syllabus, revising weekly, and taking mock tests.
  1. Aspirants should know their exam first. Learn the three sections of the NMAT: Quant, Language Skills, and Logical Reasoning, while the score range is 36–360. Equal weightage across sections means you cannot ignore any one part.
  2. Take a diagnostic mock. Attempt one full Hitbullseye / official-style NMAT mock under real timing. Note accuracy, speed and which section drains you most.
  3. Build a weekly plan. Split your time first between basics and topic drills (early weeks), then sectionals (mid) and full mocks plus analysis (last 4-6 weeks before your slot).
  4. Decide a tentative section order early. After 3-4 mocks, settle on an order that works best for you. Do not try a new order on exam day, because Once a sectional order is selected, it cannot be altered during the test.
  5. Use official and coaching material together. Use the GMAC Official Guide and practice exams to become familiar with the test pattern, and use Hitbullseye sectionals and mocks to improve your speed and strategy.
  6. Plan the testing window. If your target schools accept more than the first score, leave room for a retake (at least 7 days between attempts in the current cycle). If a school takes only the first valid score, treat attempt 1 as final for that application.
  7. Apply to B-schools separately. Prep and registration are not the same as college applications. Aspirants must track each institute’s deadline in parallel.
Hitbullseye tip: Start with accuracy, then compress time. In NMAT, rushing without a clear method hurts adaptive performance more than a slightly slower, correct start.
Section-wise Preparation Tips for NMAT 2027
Here are some tentative section-wise preparation tips for the NMAT 2027. Since NMAT does not release an official syllabus, these topics and tips are based on recent experience with the NMAT Entrance Test.
Language Skills (36 questions in 28 minutes)
This is the most stringent section, as the candidates get around 45 seconds for each question.
  • Practice short RC passages daily and focus on main idea, tone and inference.
  • Drill Error Identification, Prepositions, Sentence Completion and Analogies in small timed sets.
  • For Para Forming, practise spotting opening/closing sentences quickly.
  • Build a light vocab habit (words from mocks and editorials), not endless word lists.
  • In the exam, skip a stuck RC question early and return only if the section timer allows. Remember, you cannot revisit a question in the adaptive flow once you move past it, so decide once and move.
Quantitative Skills (36 questions in 52 minutes)
Quantitative Skills provide more time than Language, but DI sets can eat up the clock.
  • Prioritise Arithmetic (percentages, ratios, averages, TSD, time & work) and Number Properties.
  • Practise Data Integration (tables, graphs, charts, caselets) and Data Sufficiency every week.
  • Cover Algebra and Probability after arithmetic has stabilised.
  • Practise with a no-calculator mindset for speed, then check your solutions.
  • In mocks, allot time for DI first or second based on your strength and don’t leave all graphs for the last 10 minutes.
Logical Reasoning (36 questions in 40 minutes)
Logical reasoning and critical reasoning practice, with a focus on deduction, challenging puzzles, and reviewing every CR explanation.
  • Daily mix of Critical Reasoning (assumptions, strengthen/weaken, conclusions) and Analytical Puzzles.
  • Practise Deductions and other reasoning types from NMAT-style sets.
  • Learn when to leave a heavy puzzle. One challenging set should not sink the whole section.
  • Review every wrong CR explanation, and pattern recognition matters more than new tricks.
Time Management Strategy for NMAT 2027
Candidates must follow the sectional timers. When time runs out, the section ends and closes, and any unused time cannot be carried over. Treat each section as a separate mini-exam.
  1. Language: Aim to finish RC plus grammar with a 1- to 2-minute buffer. If a question crosses 50 to 60 seconds with no progress, mark your best choice and move (no negative marking).
  2. Quant: The Rough plan is about 1.4 minutes per question on average, but DI sets need front-loaded time. Decide a personal split after mocks.
  3. LR: Time the puzzles. If a set isn’t opening within 3 to 4 minutes, switch to shorter CR/deduction questions.
  4. No review of previous questions. Train “one-pass” decision-making in every practice set.
  5. Choose section order for energy, not ego. Common Hitbullseye approaches start with your strongest section for confidence or start with Language section if you want the toughest clock done first. Lock one order after mocks.
  6. Adaptive mindset. Early questions influence difficulty. If things feel hard, stay calm. Accuracy still matters more than wild guessing.
  7. Exam-day buffer. Reach the centre early, complete formalities, and use the first 30 seconds only to confirm your chosen section order, not to rethink the whole strategy.
Importance of Mock Tests in NMAT 2027 Preparation
Mocks are the core of NMAT prep because the exam rewards speed under fixed section clocks, not only concept knowledge.
  1. Match the real format. Full mocks train you for 28-minute, 52-minute, and 40-minute clocks, section order, and one-pass answering.
  2. Reveal true weak areas. Topic tests can look fine until Language’s 28-minute pressure exposes slow RC or grammar.
  3. Build adaptive stamina. Practicing only easy sets won't prepare you for rising difficulty, but good mocks will.
  4. Test retake readiness. Compare mock scores week on week to decide whether attempt 1 is enough or whether you should plan a retake within the window.
  5. Improve analysis, not just attempts. After every Hitbullseye mock, review wrong answers, skipped guesses, and time sinks the same day. Re-solve mistakes after two to three days.
  6. Simulate exam conditions. Take the NMAT mock test at the same time as your booked slot, with no phone and no pauses between sections.
  7. Track a simple score band. Use Hitbullseye guidance bands as practice goals, but not as official cut-offs. Confirm real cut-offs with each B-school later.
How many mocks are ideal? As a practical Hitbullseye plan: 8–12 full NMAT mocks before your first attempt, plus regular sectionals. Quality of analysis matters more than chasing a huge mock count.
Hitbullseye tip: In the last 10–14 days before your slot, shift most time to mocks, revision sheets and weak-topic drills. Stop starting new bulky books. Pair official GMAC practice with Hitbullseye NMAT mocks so your timing and section order feel automatic on exam day.
NMAT 2027 Cut-Off and Score
NMAT scores range from 36 to 360. Colleges use the overall score (and sometimes sectional scores) for shortlisting. The cut-offs below are taken from GMAC’s official list of NMAT-accepting colleges and reflect recent trends. Actual cut-offs can change every year.
What is a Good NMAT 2027 Score?
NMAT by GMAC does not release a single official cut-off. Individual colleges set their own cut-offs based on the number of applicants and candidates performance in that cycle. Here is the score range and the respective admission chances.

NMAT 2027 FAQs
Q1. How tough is it to crack NMAT 2027?
A.
NMAT is generally considered easier than CAT and XAT. The difficulty level is moderate, and there is no negative marking. However, the adaptive format and sectional time limits make speed and accuracy important. With consistent practice and mocks, a good score is achievable.
Q2. What is the expected NMAT 2027 cut-off for XIMB courses?
A.
Based on previous trends, XIM University (XIMB) generally has a cut-off around 150+. The exact cut-off can vary by programme and year. Candidates should check the official XIMB website for the latest requirement.
Q3. What is a good mock test series for the NMAT 2027?
A.
Official NMAT practice tests available on the GMAC portal are the best. Along with them, mock series from reliable platforms that follow the current NMAT pattern (108 questions, adaptive style, sectional timing) are useful. Focus on analysing every mock rather than just attempting more tests.
Q4. How should I prepare for the NMAT 2027 exam in 2 months?
A.
In two months, focus on high-weightage topics. Strengthen Arithmetic and Data Interpretation for Quant, practise Critical Reasoning and Puzzles for Logical Reasoning, and work on Reading Comprehension and grammar for Language Skills. Take full-length mocks regularly and analyse your mistakes. Since there is no negative marking, improve your attempt rate along with accuracy.
Q5. Is it worth buying the official NMAT 2027 guide from GMAC?
A.
Yes, the official guide is useful because it gives the closest idea of the actual question style and difficulty. It is recommended along with regular mock tests. However, it should be used with other practice material for complete preparation.
Q6. How is the NMAT exam different from the CAT?
A.
NMAT is a computer-adaptive test and has no negative marking and allows candidates to choose the section order. It is conducted over a multi-week window, and candidates can attempt it up to three times. CAT is a single-day exam with negative marking, fixed section order, and sectional time limits. NMAT is generally considered less difficult than CAT.
