IIM Calcutta - IIM Admission criteria/ Selection Process (Masters of Business Administration)

Several thousand prepare for Common Admission Test (CAT) to seek admission in the top IIMs. IIM Calcutta is one of the premier academic institutions imparting management education. Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta follows a three-step process for the final selection of the candidates for the two-year full-time residential MBA course for the batch 2021-23 batch.
Selection Criteria and final selection for the MBA Programme (2021-23 Batch):-
Candidates will be short-listed based on CAT 2020 score and past academic performance.To pursue MBA at IIM Calcutta, a candidate has to go through a three-stage selection process. The following article will shed light on key features of IIM Calcutta’s Selection Process .
Stage 1 : Minimum CAT percentile cut-offs to be considered for PI and WAT process
There are three sections in the CATexam namely, Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Verbal Ability Reasoning Comprehension (VARC). CAT aspirants preparing for management entrance (CAT 2020) have to clear the following
  • Minimum cut-offs in the sectional percentile ranks.
  • Overall percentile rank and a positive raw score in all three sections are necessary.

Those candidates who have secured the minimum percentile in CAT 2020 in respective category will be considered for calculation of their composite score in Stage II.
Stage 2 : Short-listing for Personal Interview and Written Ability Test Process:

Method Followed for Computing of Percentages in Class 10th and 12th :
Student’s aggregate marks in all subjects that appear in the mark sheet would be considered for computing/ calculation of percentage of marks for class 10th and class 12th.

Note : Once the composite scores are calculated, composite cut-off are decided in each category for short-listing the candidate in Stage -II selection process.
Stage III: Criteria for Final Selection for the MBA programme (Key Details )
A candidate’s composite score for final selection is based as per the criterion mentioned in Table 5. Students can refer to the corresponding weights mentioned against each parameter as given in table 5 and then category wise merit list is prepared.

*Because of the health hazards due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and following government advisories, the Institute has decided not to consider the weightage given for WAT for the final selection of MBA 2021-23 batch. This is to maintain the fairness and consistency of the admissions process for all candidates appeared for interview in-person or through online platform.
Important Details Regarding Points allocated for Work Experience:-
Candidates with work experience will be awarded a maximum of 8 points after considering length of service as completed on January 31,2020. Students should note that work experience after graduation will be taken into consideration and not training/ project work etc.

It is important to understand that the final selection list will be purely based on merit in each category. Also, students should note that if they have cleared the minimum eligibility in the above stages would not automatically qualify them for admission into IIM Calcutta.
