The Common Admission Process (CAP) is conducted for most of the new and baby IIMs. CAP consists of personal interview rounds. The new IIMs are aimed at creating diversely skilled and competent human resources which lead to the development of an intellectual society, and in turn impact the growth of the society. They offers post graduate diploma programmes that are equivalent to an MBA degree including a standard post-graduate diploma in management (PGDM), human resource management (PGDHRM), a full-time doctoral programme (FPM) and a part-time executive program (PGEXP).

Further, IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya also hold a Supplementary Admission Process (SAP) for candidates who have not been shortlisted for CAP. SAP is generally conducted when the admission seats are still left to be filled after CAP.

In the first stage, the candidates are shortlisted on the basis of CAT performance as well as profile. The following table shows the overall and sectional CAT cut-off 2021 (actual) of IIMs. For 2022, the cut-off will remain around the same figures:

The final selection list is prepared based on the candidate's overall profile, performance in CAT, and Personal Interview (PI). The given table shows the percentage weightage of individual components. In this, the profile refers Past Academic Records, Work Experience, Academic Diversity, Professional Qualification, and Gender Diversity.
