MICA'S theatrical production 'LADAI' to put light on issues plaguing the nation

Ahmedabad: Students of MICA, India’s premier management B-school for Strategic Marketing and Communication, Ahmedabad gear up to give Amdavadis a taste of participative drama. Through their annual production, the student-run theatre society at MICA - Sankalp - this year will perform a rendition of ‘Ladai’ written by the Late. Sarveshwar Dayal Saxena at Natarani Amphitheatre on January 22, 2023.
Ladai is a play that highlights issues that are plaguing the nation at its core and areas where a small change can lead to a better future for one and all. Directed by second-year students Raghuveer TR and Shashwat Jain, the annual production has an ensemble cast of 38 actors from across different courses at MICA. It aims to bring together a unique blend of different people from different backgrounds who’ll perform together in synergy to create an experience to remember for all those witnessing the live performance.

The co-director, Raghuveer TR said, “We chose this play because of its relevance to the present times. We also want to instil the thought of people coming together for the welfare of the nation and one another.”
Shashwat Jain, co-director of the play, added, “Sankalp has been the flag bearer of creative expression through theatre for the last three decades, providing its students with a stage to perform nationally renowned plays. This play is special as we are back after two long years.”
Sharing his experience, a first-year student Shounak Sengupta, said, “I have always been passionate about the stage, and I am glad that I will be able to channel it through Sankalp. Additionally, the chance to perform two shows at the Natarani Theatre is a huge opportunity for us, and we feel privileged. The team has been very supportive and is working really hard with us to make this production come to life. We sincerely hope that the play becomes a moving experience for the audience and will succeed in uniting people in the perpetual fight for justice and righteousness.”
As a part of this tradition, each year, MICAns come together as one force to stage a grand play for its Amdavadi audience. In the past 14 years, Sankalp has put up renowned works such as Girish Karnad’s ‘Tuglaq,’ Vijay Tendulkar’s ‘Encounter in Umbugland’, Dharmavir Bharti’s ‘Suraj Ka Satwan Ghoda,’ Woody Allen’s ‘Death’, ‘Sita Sings the Blues’ by Nina Paley, among others.
THE SYNOPSIS:
Satyavrat, a middle-aged common man, agitated by the issues plaguing the country, goes on a trial to solve everything by himself to instil thoughts of justice in the minds of the common public.
