Students from MICA, India's premier institute for Strategic Marketing and Communications, emerged as national winners at L’Oréal BrandStorm 2020, an international innovation competition, and will now represent India along with NMIMS, Mumbai in international finals to be held in Paris.
In an intense power-packed grand finale held virtually, the team, comprising of first-year MICA students Gagandeep Singh Bisht, Komal Khanduja and Krittika De emerged victorious, battling it out against three other B-school teams that include XLRI Jamshedpur, SPJIMR Mumbai and NMIMS, with their winning concept.
L’Oréal Brand Storm India edition witnessed participation from more than 200 campuses with over 5000 registrations. The national round was conducted digitally on April 3, 2020.
The theme for this year was “Build a Plastic-less future in the beauty industry”.
With increasing effects of plastic pollution in the environment, L’Oréal in collaboration with its Consumer Products Division, asked the students to come up with solutions that would either reduce or eliminate plastic from their packaging, and induce behavioural changes amongst consumers to make more sustainable decisions.

Sharing their experience, the team from MICA said, "While solutions related to packaging do reduce plastic in the environment, it is extremely difficult to entirely eliminate plastic unless product design level changes are brought in the industry.” A perfect mix of wit and sound business strategy worked in favour of the team, as they presented their bold, unique and disruptive idea at the grand finale held online.
The esteemed panel of the judges included Mr. Amit Jain, MD, L’Oréal India, Pankaj Sharma-Director, Consumer Products Division, Snehal Chitneni-Director, Communication, Sustainability, Public Affairs and Ethics and Roshni Wadhwa- Director, Human Resources.
