The ongoing lockdown, in the wake of pervasive COVID-19, has affected the lives of many vulnerable and underprivileged sections of the society, across the country. In these uncertain times, MICA, Ahmedabad, as its community outreach activity, has collaborated with the state government to support their initiative for public wellbeing.
The institute has opened its mess kitchen on campus to provide fresh food to the needy on a daily basis. Additionally, the institute is working in close coordination with the administration at various levels including distribution of ration kits to help the poor families to cope up with the loss of income because of lockdown.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Shailendra Raj Mehta, President & Director, MICA said, “In these difficult times, MICA has partnered with the government to support their initiative for public wellbeing. From April 1, we have opened our kitchen to provide food to 1000 needy people on a daily basis and will continue to do so till the lockdown. Apart from this, we have also supported nearly 3000 families with food grains that would suffice a family of 5-6 for a week.”
“We are ensuring proper hygiene by providing face masks and gloves to our workers who prepare and pack the food in our kitchen. The dishes are being made with extra effort so that food does not get spoiled in this weather”, added Sunjay Chandwani, Head, Estate and Campus administration. MICA has always been at the forefront when it comes to contributing and giving back to the society and hope to continue in such endeavours especially in times like these.
