How FIIB supporting socio-emotional well-being during Pandemic Crisis

This Pandemic Lockdown has put all of our strength and zeal to a hard test by interrupting our regular lives. It is indeed testing times for all of us. In an effort to overcome the effects of the pandemic, we at FIIB have employed a holistic approach to education – which not only addresses students’ learning but also the social & emotional needs, which was crucial, especially in the times of crisis.

Adopting a Holistic Approach to Education

An MBA program is not only about knowing the concepts of management to secure a job. But to help students evolve their inner capabilities and explore the outer world to become career-ready. FIIB through its various Student Holistic Development Services provide students with ample opportunities to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities all across the year.

Students have made most out of the pandemic situation by volunteering in various events and learning new skills while doing so. FIIB continued organising all of its International & National Seminars, Conferences, Competitions, Placement Readiness Program, and Weekly Club activities, giving students the opportunity to inculcate career-enhancement skills and network with right-minded people.

Offering Counselling Options and Socialisation Opportunities to Young Graduates

Pandemic brings the challenge to continue this development. Learning has taken a different meaning in the last one year. Both asynchronous and synchronous learnings are going hand in hand.  But we have always known that learning is not restricted in classrooms only. Likewise, the pandemic didn’t just bring the physical restrictions for us all but it also limited us by exposing our vulnerabilities and putting them in the spotlight.

It's not just the journey of the student but helping them to keep walking forward on the path, is the objective of the mentors at FIIB. - Prof. Shuchi Dikshit

Closures and Lockdowns can also have considerable effects on students’ sense of belonging to colleges and their feelings of self-worth- Understanding this situation we focused not only to keep the status intact but also extend the students with both social and psychological support to continue on their journey.

New Initiatives for Student Community Betterment

FIIB launched Aarohan Counselling Centre, an in-house support service for students to help them fight the pandemic in their minds too. It supports students with one-on-one confidential counselling and regular webinars on common issues like stress, anxiety, emotional dilemmas and so on. We set the ball rolling for freshers with the initiatives like:

  • Weekly Faculty Challenges to help students’ bond with faculty members
  • Timely Aarohan Get-togethers to break the ice with batchmates and seniors
  • Individual counselling sessions were conducted to resolve emotional difficulties and to make one a healthier self and to be less conflicted internally

Sitting at home with limited interaction would seem harmless but the effects become visible when we have to face the recruitment process. Students need the support at this time as much as they need when they start as a fresher. Special sessions known as Dug-Outs are organized regularly in smaller groups for students to prepare and discuss with faculty members.
