*Note: The actual percentage and percentile mentioned in table -1 of a shortlisted candidate for the GD & PI process may be much higher than the above mentioned minimum values.
Also, VARC stands for Verbal and Reading Comprehension, DILR stands for Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, QA stands for Quantitative Aptitude.
- As per the data mentioned in A , eligible candidates will be segregated as per their academic disciplines in graduation as mentioned in CAT 2020. Annexure 1 gives details of academic disciplines.
A certain percentage (α) of candidates from each academic discipline will be shortlisted for GD and PI. The details are mentioned below:
N = Number of candidates that appeared for CAT 2020 Exam
G = Number of Academic disciplines
Ni = The number of candidates present in the ithacademic discipline, Ɐ i = 1,2,3,……g.
The percentage of candidates eligible for shortlist for any ith academic discipline will be as per details mentioned in Table – 2.

The eligible candidates in respective categories are grouped as per the categories, with number of candidates in any given category j being : Mj , Ɐj = E,T, C, O. Thus,
ME : Number of candidates in category EWS
MT : Number of candidates in category ST
MC : Number of candidates in category SC
MO: Number of candidates in category OT
As per the academic disciplines, the candidate will thus be grouped as given in Table 3.

Thus Mijis the number of candidates in ith Academic discipline of jth categoryⱯ I = 1,2,3…gⱯj = E,T, C, O. This implies
MEi : Number of candidates in the ith academic discipline in category EWS
MTi : Number of candidates in the ith academic discipline in category ST
MCi : Number of candidates in the ith academic discipline in category SC and
MOi : Number of candidates in the ith academic discipline in category OT
- Finally the number of candidates shortlisted for GD and PI will be based on the following parameters:
IIM Shillongwill decide the total number of candidates to be shortlisted for the GD and PI process. The value of x will be decided based on the overall performance of the candidates in CAT 2020, the number of seats available, buffer for possible overlap and attendance trends in the past.
With X= Number of candidates to be called for GD and PI the number of candidates to be shortlisted for interview in any category j will be Xj,Ɐ j = E,T, C,O, where
XE= 10% of X rounded to higher nearest integer
XT= 7.5% of X rounded to higher nearest integer
Xc= 15.0% of X rounded to higher nearest integer
Xo= 67.5% of X rounded to higher nearest integer
5% of the shortlisted Xj( j≠ E) will comprise of Differently Abled (DA) candidates
- The candidates shortlisted for interviews in the ith academic discipline from the jth category will be Xji, " j= E,T, C,O, where
∀ i = 1,2,3….p for j = E; p denotes the number of disciplines appearing in category E
∀ i = 1,2,3….q for j = T; q denotes the number of disciplines appearing in category T.
∀ i = 1,2,3….p for j = C ; r denotes the number of disciplines appearing in category C
∀ i = 1,2,3….p for j = O; s denotes the number of disciplines appearing in category O
Note: The number of candidates shortlisted in various academic disciplines in respective categories will be calculated as:

The candidates in a given category, academic discipline and gender would be ranked based on decreasing order of their CAT overall percentile.
Key Details of Phase 2: Merit Listing for Admission Offer to PGP 2021-23 Batch
After the completion of the GD and PI rounds, the scores achieved in the GD and PI will be used along with overall CAT performance of the shortlisted candidates for compilation of the final merit list. Offer for admissions will be made based on this merit list. The scores used will thus be
X: Candidate’s Score in Group Discussion
Y: Candidate’s Score in Personal Interview
Z: Overall CAT Absolute Score
which will further be normalized as Nx , Ny and Nz for preparation of the final merit list. This process is illustrated below.
With a total of 𝑚 number of candidates will appearing in the GD and PI process, an overall score, 𝑂𝑆𝑐 for every appearing candidate 𝑐, will be calculated using the following formula, which will be used for preparing the merit list:
= 𝑤1(𝑁𝑐𝑥) + 𝑤2(𝑁𝑐𝑦) + 𝑤3(𝑁𝑐𝑧) 𝑐 = 1, 2, 3, … , 𝑚
𝑁𝑐x : Normalized score of Performance of the candidate 𝑐 in GD
𝑁cy : Normalized score of Performance of the candidate 𝑐 in PI
𝑁𝑐z : Normalized score of Performance of the candidate 𝑐 in CAT-2020 Absolute Score (overall)
w1 : Weight of performance of the candidate 𝑐 in 𝑁𝑐(20%)
w2 : Weight of performance of the candidate 𝑐 in 𝑁𝑐(50%)
w3 : Weight of performance of the candidate 𝑐 in 𝑁𝑐(30%)
However, there will be different cut-off scores for candidate’s performance in GD and PI in various categoriesas shown in Table 5.
