Analysis: CMAT 2013

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is the first national level test conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for admission to all management programs in AICTE approved institutions. The test was introduced in 2012. In 2013 CMAT was conducted from 21st February 2013 to 25th February 2013. The pattern was same as that of 2012 exam. The test is taken twice a year. Overall the paper was of moderate-difficult level with the quantitative ability & Data interpretation section getting tougher compared to previous CMAT exams. The test has in all 100 questions to be solved in a time span of 180 minutes.

SECTIONAL ANALYSIS
SECTION I: Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation

Evaluation:This section covered entirely every topic of mathematics. Overall the section was easy to moderate. Questions in this section were from the topics like Number system, Linear equation, Inequalities, Pipes & Cisterns, Profit & Loss, Averages, Mixture & Alligations, Co-ordinate Geometry, Mensuration, Probability, and Permutation & Combination. 2 sets were on Data Interpretation (1 bar graph and 1 pie chart) with 1 question each that involved simple calculations like addition, ratio & percentages. And 2 questions were on data Sufficiency which were a bit tough.

SECTION II: Verbal Ability

Evaluation:Overall this section was of moderate level. A student having basic knowledge of grammar could have excelled in this section. The section included questions on idioms, vocabulary, Critical Reasoning, Para jumbles, Fill in the blanks, etc. Major emphasis was on Critical reasoning questions. With decent amount of vocabulary and analytical ability, one can approach these questions.

SECTION III: Logical Reasoning

Evaluation:The level of this section was moderate to difficult. The section involved basic logical reasoning sets that included topics on Data arrangement, Family relations, Blood relations, Linear arrangement, Coding-Decoding, Visual Reasoning, Alphabet series, Direction based questions, Calenders, etc. Majority of the questions were on grouping and conditionality.

SECTION IV: General Awareness

Evaluation:In this section questions were asked on various areas of general awareness like banking, sports, arts & culture, geography, history, politics, business, etc. A consistent reading of newspapers and magazines would enable a candidate to do well in this section.
