Test Analysis - Bull MAT 03

Overall Brief

On the whole the level of the test was close to Actual MAT. The important thing was time management. One had to pick the easy questions and leave any questions which were difficult or time consuming.

Reasoning
Easy Questions:
42-50,52,58,60 63,65-67

Reasoning was of relatively easy level with very less time consuming questions. The section contained 5 sets on AR (42-56), each containing 3 questions, all of which were of easy level except question No. 51 (Moderate level). Two separate questions (65, 66) on AR were also easy. The questions (56-58) were based on statements - conclusions and were of easy to moderate level. The questions (57-61) were from miscellaneous reasoning and were of easy to moderate level. Questions (68-71) were based on assertion and reason and were moderate level and should have been attempted. The questions (72-76) were based on statements - conclusions and were of moderate level. 4 questions on Relations & directions (2 easy, 1 medium, & 1 difficult). Some questions on Critical Reasoning (77-80) were of medium to high difficulty level.
An average student could have gathered 90 percentile plus by attempting around 28-31 questions with around 80-85% accuracy.

Quant
Easy Questions:
81-83, 85,87-95,97-100,106-108,111-113,117

Quant was of relatively easy to medium level with a very few time consuming questions which made them avoidable in time pressure. Majority of the questions were easy to moderate. Out of 40 questions, 24 were easy, 8 moderate and 8 difficult. It was a balanced paper it terms of all the mathematical topics. The various topics covered were – Geometry & Mensuration (8 Q- 2 easy, 2 medium & 4 Difficult ), Work & chain rule (6 Q-4 easy, 1 medium & 1 Difficult), Alligation & mixture (4Q-2 easy, 1 medium & 1 Difficult), TSD (2 Q-1 easy & 1 medium), Algebra (3Q-2 easy & 1 medium), Ratio & partnership (4 Q- 2, easy & 2 difficult), Races / Boats & streams (4Q- all easy), SI/CI (4 Q- all easy), P & C(1 Q- medium level), Profit & Loss (2Q—Both easy level), Percentages (1 Q-- medium level), and Averages (1 Q- Easy level). On the whole, this was a paper quite close to the actual MAT paper. A student who is even average at quant could have gathered 90 percentile plus by attempting around 29 - 31 questions only with around even 80 - 85% accuracy.

DI & DS
Easy Questions:
122, 126, 127,133-135, 138, 140, 146, 147, 150, 154-157, 159

DI section was of easy to moderate level with just one or two time consuming sets which could have been avoided in time pressure. The two sets on Line graph were of moderate to difficult. Data Comparison was easy to moderate level. A set of Data Caselets had five questions which were mostly difficult. A set on Bar Graph (Q 126-130) had 3 difficult & 2 easy questions. Another set on Multiple graphs was of moderate to difficult level. A set on Pie chart (Q146 – 150) was quite calculation intensive. And lastly, Data Sufficiency had 2 easy and 3 moderate level questions. The student who is even average at DI could have gathered 90 percentile plus by attempting around 20 - 22 questions only with around even 80 - 85% accuracy.

Verbal
Easy Questions:
2-14,16-20, 23-24,26, 28-29,31,33,34

The Verbal section was easy to moderate. First set of questions Q(1-20) were based on reading comprehension. 1st paragraph Q(1-4) talked about the environmental safety concerns and how calorie consumption can be used for the analysis. Questions were based on title, inference and facts. All questions were easy except Q(1) which was of medium level. 2nd paragraph Q(5-8) talked about Kangaroos and describes each and every thing about them. Questions were factual and easy. 3rd paragraph Q(9-12) talked about the mantra of staying happy , healthy and successful. All questions were based on the ideas given in the passage and were easy. 4th paragraph Q(13-16) talked about gamma rays emission and the discovery part as well. All questions were based on the understanding of the passage and were easy except Q(15) which was of medium level. 5th paragraph Q(17-20) talked about koala bears and their extinction parameters. Questions were based on facts. All questions were easy. Then Q(21-23) were based on grammar. Sentences sequence had to be made. All questions were of medium level except Q 23, which was easy. Next set of questions Q(24-27) was based on sentence rearrangement. All questions were easy except Q(25,27) which were of medium level. Then Q(28-30) were based on sentence completion. All questions were easy except Q(30) which was of medium level. Then Q(31-34) were based on critical reasoning. All questions were except Q(32) which was of medium level . Also, Q(35-37) were based on grammar. All questions were of medium level. Then Q(38-40) were based on vocabulary and were of medium level. One should do 26-28 questions with 80-85% accuracy to get 90%ile.

GK
Easy Questions:
164,168,171,174,175,177,181,188,190,197

This section of the paper was moderate. The paper covered Business and economy, books authors, international and national, finance and banking, sports, Politics, history, science and technology. Very less time should be devoted to this section of the paper. In order to generate a percentile of 90+ a student should have ideally attempted 18-20 questions with 85 – 90% accuracy.

Strategy & Tips

The overall feel of the paper was of easy category. Now talking of strategy as a general rule you should not get struck in any question unless you are sure about its solution. Taking the Verbal, the general strategy is that never leave a RC passage on the face of it that it is either lengthy or the language is difficult, without reading the questions given below as some of the question could be direct and do not require full reading and understanding of the passage. One should have a good knowledge of grammar and vocabulary to score well. Also one should read a lot to have hold on reading comprehensions. Taking the Reasoning section, since many of the questions on AR were in sets of 3 questions, thus do not get struck in any one set. If arrangement is difficult to be deciphered, then move on to the next set and so on, so as to reach till the end of the section. The general strategy for Quant section would be to solve easier questions and leave all the questions which were difficult or time consuming. DI section was full of easy questions so you should have kept on solving the questions coming on your way and straight away leaving the questions in which you were likely to stick. GK section should have been devoted very less time and attempting only those questions which one knows.
