Overall Brief

On the whole the level of the test was easy to moderate. The test contained many difficult questions, so the important factor was selection of right questions. Reasoning section in this paper was comparatively a little tougher than the Quant section. The key to getting a good percentile was time management and selection of questions. Verbal section was moderate.

It covered the questions from all areas like Direction, Relation, Coding, and Alphabetical Series, Statement/Reason/Assertion questions, Symboperation as well as many AR sets. In such a section, there is hardly any need to worry about choosing the correct question and one should focus on attempting as many questions in as less time as possible. There was one question based on analogy (75) and was easy. Questions (47-50) were based on assertion and reason and were easy and should have been attempted.

The Verbal section was easy to moderate. First set of questions (Q1-20) was based on reading comprehension and majority of the questions in all the RC passages were direct. The first passage (Q1-4) was based on ‘Koala Bear –a marsupial mammal’. All questions were easy. Second passage (Q5-8)was related to ‘India emerging as a manufacturing hotspot. Then Questions (28-30) were based on identifying the odd one out and were easy but Q28 was of moderate difficulty. Again vocabulary is important here where jumbled words have to be unjumbled and thereafter picking out the misfit. The next set of questions (Q31-34) were based on critical reasoning where Q31 and 33 were easy but Q32 and 34 were moderate and difficult respectively. All the questions were based on identifying the summary of the small paragraph given and good reading and reasoning skills are helpful in these type of questions. Also, Questions (35-37) were based on sentence correction. The questions were based on picking the most appropriate sentence that follows the grammatical rules of written standard English. All questions were easy except Q36 which was of medium level. Then Questions (38-40) were based on vocabulary where the given word was to be unjumbled and its appropriate antonym was to be identified from the given options. All the questions were easy . One should have attempted 24-26 questions with 80-85% accuracy to get 90%ile.

Strategy & Tips

The overall feel of the paper was of easy to moderate category. Now talking of strategy as a general rule you should not get struck in any question unless you are sure about its solution. Taking the Verbal, the general strategy is that never leave a RC passage on the face of it that it is either lengthy or the language is difficult, without reading the questions given below as some of the question could be direct and do not require full reading and understanding of the passage. Taking the Reasoning section, since many of the questions on AR were in sets of 3 questions, thus do not get struck in any one set. If arrangement is difficult to be deciphered, then move on to the next set and so on, so as to reach till the end of the section. The general strategy for Quant section would be to solve easier questions and leave all the questions which were difficult or time consuming. GK section should have been devoted very less time and attempting only those questions which one knows. One should have a good knowledge of grammar and vocabulary to score well. Also one should read a lot to have hold on reading comprehensions.
