On the whole the level of the test was easy. The important thing was time management. One had to pick the easy questions and leave any questions which were difficult or time consuming.
Quant section was of easy level with 19 easy questions. The questions from almost all the areas were covered in this section. There was one question of time and work which was easy. Also the paper had one question each of profit and loss, percentage, Mixtures, average and coordinate geometry. The questions of these areas were easy except the one on average and coordinate geometry. There were 3 questions of functions which were of moderate level. There were 2 questions each on SI/CI and Time, speed and distance each. There was one question of logarithm which was doable. The paper had 2 questions of ratio and they were of easy level. In the DI there were 3 questions each of line diagram and pie chart. These questions were of easy level and should have been attempted.
A student could have gathered 90 percentile plus by attempting 22-24 questions with 80 - 85% accuracy.
Reasoning was moderately easy in comparison to Quant, having 21 easy, and 4 moderate questions. There were 3 questions of coding decoding and they were easy to solve. Also there were 5 questions on series, two of them were on alphabetic series and 3 were on numeric series. The questions on numeric series were of moderate level. Also there were 4 questions on relations and directions and they were easy to solve. The paper had 5 questions on analytical reasoning and they were of easy level. Also there were 5 CR questions and they were of easy to moderate level.
A student could have gathered 90 percentile plus by attempting 21-23 questions with 80-85% accuracy.
1st set of questions was based on complete Para jumbling Q(26,39,41). All questions were easy except Q(26) which was moderate. Next set was based on Reading Comprehension Q(27-29),Q(33-36),Q(44-48). 1st paragraph talked about the possible impact of climate change on animals. All questions were easy. 2nd paragraph talked about Raja Ram Mohan Roy and how author’s father came into his influence and developed a perspective about nation’s success. Q(33) was difficult as it was w.r.t. author. Q(34) and Q(35) were easy as both were based on factual analysis. Q(36) was of medium level as it was based on paraphrasing. In 3rd paragraph the author of the passage was making a comparison between the treatment meted out to pets and other non-pet animals. He pointed out the stark distinction and highlighted how the given situation was very cruel. All questions were of medium level except questions (47, 48) which were easy. Another set was based on sentence correction Q(30,31,37,49).All the questions were easy except Q 49, which was easy. Q (37) was based on fill in the blanks and was moderate. Q(49) was of medium level based on spotting errors. Questions were based on CR-Para completion and critical reasoning Q(32,40,43). All were of medium level. Q(38) was based on sentence completion and was easy. The question said that Alexander was not able to figure out the message behind the ‘omens’ so he went to people concerned i.e. ‘soothsayers’ to ‘decode’ or to tell the hidden message behind the omens. Two questions Q(42,50) were based on Vocabulary. Q(42) was moderate and Q(50) was of medium level. One should attempt 16-18 questions with 80-85% accuracy to get 90%ile.
This section of the paper was moderate. The paper was covering Business and economy, books & authors, international and national, finance and banking, sports, Politics, history, science and technology. Very less time should be devoted to this section of the paper. In order to generate a percentile of 90+ a student should have ideally attempted 14-16 questions with 85 – 90% accuracy.
The overall feel of the paper was easy. Now talking of strategy, as a general rule you should not get struck in any question unless you are sure about its solution. Taking the Reasoning section, since most of the questions were single, thus do not get struck in any one question. If pattern is difficult to be deciphered, then move on to the next question and so on, so as to reach till the end of the section. The general strategy for Quant section would be to solve easier questions and leave all the questions which were difficult or time consuming. Talking about the Verbal section, the general strategy is that never leave a RC passage on the face of it that it is either lengthy or the language is difficult, without reading the questions given below as some of the question could be direct and do not require full reading and understanding of the passage. One should have a good knowledge of grammar and vocabulary to score well. Also one should read a lot to have grip on reading comprehensions from speed as well as accuracy point of view. GK section should have been devoted very less time and attempting only those questions which one knows.
