ATMA 2020 Analysis

ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions) is a national level entrance exam conducted by AIMS (Association of Indian Management School). This year it was held on 7 August. There are 740 top management schools of national and international repute in the country that are associated with ATMA. Students intending to take admission in management programs such as MBA, PGDM, MMS etc. have to appear for the ATMA exam scheduled to be held 4-5 times in a year. Many reputed colleges such as IIMs, ISB, Xavier Institutes, Welingkar, MDI, S P Jain, ICFAI and NMIMS accept ATMA scores for the intake of students in their post graduate programmes for the year MBA admission 2020.
ATMA is an objective computer-based test containing 3 sections, namely, Quantitative Skills, Analytical Reasoning Skills, and Verbal Skills. These sections have 2 sub-sections each, making it a total of 6 sections. Students should be aware that the total time duration for ATMA is 3 hours with every correct answer allotted 1 mark and for every incorrect answer 0.25 mark will be deducted.

Verbal Skills Sections:-  The verbal section was in two parts i.e verbal skills – I  & verbal skills – II . Verbal skills – II had 4-5 passages comprising 30 questions. Most of the questions were direct and easy. However the passages were based on diverse areas.  The only requirement was that of a good reading speed. Unlike last year, Verbal Skills-I was dominated by non-vocabulary based questions. This year, the  section was dominated by sentence rearrangement, cloze test, grammar & sentence correction , finding the option, which is not in consonance with the main idea of the given paragraph. One could have easily attempted  46+ questions with the accuracy of 70+%
Quantitative Skills sections:- The Quantitative Ability section has questions from areas such as arithmetic, geometry and analytical geometry. The questions were framed on speed, distance and time, ratio proportion, work problems, heights, progressions, probability, percentages, etc. Students should understand the basic concepts of different mathematical topics.

Analytical Reasoning Skills Sections:- Here a student’s analytical and logical ability is put to test. As time duration is given for each section therefore student has to choose questions that need less time for solving. This year this section was dominated by critical reasoning in one part and other part also had questions based on deductions , puzzles, coding- decoding etc. It is important that students practice mock tests to understand the question type.

For the analytical reasoning section a continuous and constant practice is the key to success. It helps the candidate to solve the blocks quickly and accurately. A good attempt in this section is around 43-45 questions with 90 % accuracy. For the Quantitative skills the candidate must have a good knowledge of school level Mathematics. This year critical and verbal reasoning played the crucial role in getting decent score in these areas. A good attempt is around 42-43 questions with around 85 to 90 percent accuracy.
