Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) was set up as the first school of management within the IIT system at Kharagpur campus. It was established with an objective to develop managers with a strong technical background who will be leading tomorrow's corporate behemoths with managerial skills, suiting the Indian corporate environment and ethos. VGSoM offers part-time and full-time residential and executive MBA, Post Graduate Diploma in Management programs for regular students and working professionals, along with Managerial Development Programs (MDP's) and PhD programs for its students.
MBA selection criteria at VGSoM include the score in the standardised national written examination accepted by the B-school (CAT), candidate's academic percentage, academic profile, relevant work experience in months and quality of work experience. The further selection process consists of Personal Interview round.

It is important to note that specific weightages are allotted to different sections of CAT at the final stage. These include 20% to VARC and 10% each to DILR and QA (of the total 40% allotted to CAT score).
