TISSNET 2015 Analysis

TISS conducts its own online entrance exam called TISSNET for admissions to its Full-Time (Regular) Post-Graduate Degree Programmes (M.A., M. Sc., M.H.A., M.P.H.) in the areas of social work, health, management, development, etc. offered at its Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati, Hyderabad campuses and other locations. TISSNET 2015 was held on January 10, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 3:40 pm in 39 centers in different parts of the country.

TISSNET 2015 Exam Pattern
The test had 3 sections: Maths and Logical Reasoning, English Proficiency and General Awareness. The number of questions and marks were as follows:

The total time of the exam was 100 minutes and there was no sectional time limit so candidates could switch between sections freely. The test interface was similar to that of CAT 2014. There was no negative marking in the exam.
Mathematics and Logical Reasoning Section
The Math and Logical reasoning section had 35 questions. This section was fairly easy and even an average student could have solved at least 25 of the given 35 questions. Following is a topic-wise breakup of this section:

The section comprised 30 questions and carried 35 marks. 10 questions of this section were Vocabulary based, which were of moderate to high level of difficulty. There was one reading comprehension passage of about 550-580 words followed by 5 questions. These five questions were of 2 marks each.

There were few difficult vocabulary based questions, For Example difference in usage of Culpable vs Accountable; Timorous vs Vapid; Subversion vs Complaisance; Praxis vs Abstention
General Awareness
The toughest of the three, this section can be the deciding section for many. There were 35 questions in this section and like last year, this section saw 22-23 questions on Static GK. The remaining 7-8 questions were based on current GK. The current affairs questions were of an easy-moderate level of difficulty, whereas the static questions were moderate-difficult. A good score in this section could be 14-16. The questions were related to the following areas:
