Analysis -- NMAT 2014 Question Paper

NMAT 2014 Question Paper - Quantitative Skills
48 Qs, Time: 60 mins

There were many questions from Data Interpretation while very few were given on Data Sufficiency. In Problem Solving, questions were evenly distributed among all areas in Mathematics (Numbers, Arithmetic, Modern Maths, Geometry, Algebra). A unique feature was the block-wise nature of the questions in Problem Solving i.e. particular questions in a sequence were based on the same topic. For example, questions 5 to 9 are single questions only on number system, while questions 12 to 16 would be on Geometry alone. Some DI blocks were a bit tough involving lots of calculations and really close answers. Ideally, they should have been left for the end.

NMAT 2014 Question Paper - Logical Reasoning
(40 Qs, 38 mins)
The segment had questions on arrangements, family tree, numerical grids, coding-decoding, series, etc., followed by those on Verbal Logic (Statement–Conclusion, Syllogisms, Critical Reasoning). The Decision Making had very few questions this time. The Decision Making questions give scenarios with possible actions to be taken and ask you to choose the most appropriate one. The options were quite easy to choose from. Easy to solve, on the whole.

NMAT 2014 Question Paper - Language Skills
(32 Qs, 22 mins)
The Language Skills part of the NMAT 2014 Question Paper had questions based on 2 Reading Comprehension Passages, Identify the error, Fill in the Blanks, Jumbled paragraphs and Synonyms -Antonyms. The RC passages should have been done at the end as at least one passage was moderately difficulty. Apart from the questions on antonyms and synonyms (which required a reasonably good vocabulary), the other questions were easy.
