Analysis: MAT 2010

The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) every year for short listing candidates for post graduate programs. The MAT score is used by many institutes. MAT is conducted 4 times a year that is in February, May, September and December.

The pattern of the paper was same as that of previous years. Also the level of the questions was same. There were no major changes. The breakup of the paper is given as follows:

SECTIONAL - ANALYSIS

SECTION I: Language Comprehension

Evaluation: The level of the questions was easy to moderate. Verbal Ability covered entirely every topic of English usage. The section had equal number of questions divided among Reading comprehension (20) and English usage and vocabulary (20). Reading comprehension passages were a bit tough. There were 5 passages with 4 questions each. The other varieties of questions were error identification, Para jumbles, fill in the blanks, summary, word meanings and best way of writing the sentence. Expected attempt in this section could be 25+.

SECTION II: Mathematical Skills

Evaluation: This section can be considered of moderate to difficult level. It required lengthy calculations. The questions were from ratio & percentages, profit & loss, partnership, simple and compound interest, speed distance time, time & work, pipes & cisterns, allegations & mixtures, geometry and averages. Some of the questions were also on trigonometry, permutation & combination, probability & mensuration. Expected attempt in this section could be 20-25 questions.

SECTION III: Intelligence & Critical Reasoning

Evaluation: This section was the easiest of all. The sets were mainly based on the questions of direction, cubes, number/letter series, arrangement, assertion reason, statement conclusion, syllogism, Venn diagrams, blood relations, etc. Expected attempt in this section could be 30+ questions.

SECTION IV: Data Analysis & Sufficiency

Evaluation: The section was moderate to difficult level and required lengthy calculations. It was a bit time consuming. This section comprised of Data Interpretation (DI), Data sufficiency (DS), and Data Comparison (DC). DI covered the graphs like table, bar graph, pie chart, line graph, and combination of graphs. DS and DC were less time consuming than DI. Expected attempt in this section could be 20-25 questions.

SECTION V: General Awareness

Evaluation: The level of the section was moderate. Questions were based on dynamic General Knowledge. Various questions were based on the issues like company information, inflation, deflation, taxation, corporate, sports, current affairs, history, civics, and miscellaneous. If a student is into reading he/she could easily excel in this section.
